Expertise:
- Internationally recognized expert and an authority in breast and gynecologic pathology, Dr. Tavassoli is the author of two editions of Pathology of the Breast, a comprehensive textbook on breast pathology and a gold standard on the topic; she is currently working on the 3rd edition. She is also co-editor of the World Health Organization Atlas on Tumours of the Breast and Female Genital Tract : Pathology and Genetics- a global standard for classification of tumors. Her most recent work, the AFIP fascicle on Tumors of the Breast will be out in 2008. She has over 170 articles in peer reviewed journals and numerous chapters in addition to the books noted above.
Dr. Tavassoli has a busy consultation service serving as a national and international consultant for challenging lesions of breast, ovary, uterus, vulva and vagina.
A strong advocate of education in pathology, Dr. Tavassoli has organized and taught a variety of courses and slide seminars worldwide and created a computer based expert system in breast pathology; she is a sought after speaker and educator around the world.
Dr. Tavassoli is the Director of fellowship program in Gyn and Breast Pathology.

- Special types of breast carcinoma including the basal-like carcinomas; Molecular alterations in intraepithelial neoplasias and invasive mammary carcinomas; Genetics differences between necrotic variant and common types of lobular intraepithelial neoplasia; Diagnostic and Prognostic markers for breast and ovarian carcinoma; Impact of micro and macroenvironment on mammary carcinogenesis and progression of carcinoma; Protein expression profile of mammary and ovarian carcinomas.
