Diagnostic Services

Yale Pathology Labs offer state-of-the-art diagnostic services in Cytology, Surgical Pathology, and Autopsy. As with traditional pathology departments, Yale Pathology is structurally divided into three main diagnostic services—Autopsy, Cytology, and Surgical Pathology—that are supported by a variety of specialty laboratories: Histology, Immunohistochemistry, Electron Microscopy, Cytoprep Laboratory, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Diagnostics.

CYTOPATHOLOGY

Early detection of cervical cancer, HPV testing, squamous cell carcinoma, endometrial adenocarcinoma, ovarian adenocarcinoma; bronchial lavages, pneumocystis carinii, aspergillus; fine needle aspirations, lung, liver, thyroid, pancreas; body fluid cytology, pleural, peritoneal, pericardial; mesothelioma, metastatic adenocarcinoma.

MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS

Lymphoid neoplasms: immunoglobulin gene rearrangements, T cell receptor gene rearrangement, Bcl1 gene rearrangement, Bcl2 gene rearrangement. Solid tumors: K-ras mutational analysis (gastrointestinal, lung and ovarian tumors), p53 mutational analysis (malignant tumors), SYT/SSX rearrangement (synovial sarcoma), Ret/PTC rearrangement (papillary thyroid carcinoma).

SURGICAL PATHOLOGY PROGRAMS

Surgical Pathology is Yale Pathology Labs' most comprehensive diagnostic service, reflecting the various sub-specialties of more than forty highly qualified physicians. Our board-certified pathologists are experts in most subspecialty areas and offer complete services for all surgical pathology needs. Areas of intense subspecialty interest include the fields of gynecologic, gestational and reproductive pathology, breast pathology, gastroenterologic and hepatic pathology, genitourinary and renal pathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, and ophthalmic pathology, among others.
