Courier Service
Express Courier/Medifleet is available to schedule routine and STAT specimen pickups for Yale Pathology Labs. The processing and delivery of supply orders will be completed within 24 hours of your request. Patient final reports will be delivered as they are generated from our laboratories. Specimen Submission
- General Guidelines for Specimen Submission
- All specimens submitted to the pathology laboratory must be accompanied by a pathology requisition slip.
- All requisition slips must be printed clearly.
- All requisitions must include the patient’s demographics (name, date of birth, sex).
- All requisitions must include the type of specimen submitted (breast biopsy, Pap smear, prostate biopsy, etc.).
- For surgical pathology cases, the information must include the exact anatomic site that was sampled, organ, and laterality of specimen (left or right).
- All requisitions must include a relevant clinical history on the patient and some remarks to guide the pathologist toward an issue of clinical significance.
- All specimen containers must be clearly labeled.
- All specimen containers must be sealed tightly so as not to compromise the specimen while in transit to the laboratory.
- Specimens that are improperly submitted may, following established guidelines, be rejected in the interest of patient safety. Improperly submitted specimens will undoubtedly yield an invalid result.
Billing Information
Yale Pathology Labs will bill the insurance company or financially responsible party directly, per the requisition form that accompanies each specimen submitted to our lab. Our billing department can be contacted at (203) 785-4216 or (800) 826-9922.
Results Reporting
As patient reports are generated, a hard copy report will be delivered to the office of the requesting physician via our courier service. Patient reports are also available for community physicians to access immediately via our secure Web-based software solution RELAY or via MDlink.

Consultation Services
Yale Pathology Labs aim to provide prompt and timely diagnosis as well as special studies for specific diseases. The expertise of our pathology subspecialists and the diversity of surgical specimens submitted for evaluation also provide an excellent environment for research and training. Consultations and requests for second opinions are welcome. If you are a patient at another hospital or a physician and you would like to have pathology slides sent to Yale Pathology for an upcoming appointment or for a second opinion, please send slides along with the final report to:
